Since Android users are usually nudged into using a Google account, many will find themselves in the situation of using Googles’ online calendar service (often without being aware that Google is getting all that data).
With that said, since the Above Phone uses GrapheneOS as the operating system, none of the Google services are installed by default.
We do put a fully functional calendar app on the phone, namely Fossify Calendar. It can directly be used for offline on-device calendars, and it can also recognize synced calendars set up via DAVx⁵
Next are the general steps to export data from an existing calendar and then to import them on the Above Phone via Fossify Calendar. Note that Fossify Calendar can be installed on any modern Android device. The app is available both on F-Droid as well as the Google Play Store.
For a smooth migration it may be easiest to install and set up Fossify Calendar on the old phone too, to then export all events from there.
Export Calendars (Fossify Calendar)
Inside the app, look for the upper right – you may see 3 dots > Settings or this ⚙️ icon
In Settings, scroll down and tap Export calendars to an .ics file
Choose the calendars you want to export - tap on the currently displaying one to get other options.
Also, take note of the name of the file that will be created.
To change the name, tap on it. By default it will add the date and time of your export to help you keep track of things.
Select a location to save the .ics file - tap on Save to finish the process
That’s it - all events from the selected calendar are now stored into this .ics file.
Feel free to transfer this file to any other device or calendar and use the 'Import' functionality of your given calendar to get your events into another calendar.
