KeePassDX is one of the only password managers we can fully recommend, since it gives the user full control and does not rely on any third party, or even an internet connection.
This also means that YOU as the user will be 100% responsible to keep your passwords secure and maintained in the way you want.
KeePass also exists for computer / desktop systems, including Linux, Windows, macOS and can be integrated into web browsers via browser extensions.
For computers we recommend to use KeePassXC, which is fully compatible with KeePassDX. This means you can open the same vault (database file) with either app.
Note that you can synchronize your KeePass vault (database file) across your devices via Syncthing - here is our guide.
Here we show how to manage and backup locally saved database files for KeePass. On the phone we use KeePassDX, for computers we recommend the use of KeePassXC , which is compatible with the database files.

KeepassXC Database Management
From the cyber security standpoint, KeePass is a very secure password management app since it does not use any third party apps and is both locally managed and saved offline on the device. However, this means that the user is responsible for where the backup files or passwords are saved and how to effectively manage it.
Here is the rough outline to create a backup file on a USB storage.
Open the KeePassDX app.
Unlock the password vault using the master password you have previously assigned and tap Unlock
With the vault opened, tap the three line button in the top left corner. You will find Save a copy to functionality.
The file manager will come up asking where place the copy. For example you could put a copy to the USB storage. To this, connect an external USB storage device using the charging port on the phone.
The three lines button top left will bring out the sidebar of the file manager.
Open the destination folder, take note of the name this file will have at the bottom and hit SAVE
Hint: this may be an appropriate time to set a date and time for the backup file.
You can now be certain that all of your passwords are backed up on an external USB storage device in case you need them in the future.
You can also disconnect the USB storage device and plug it into any other device that has KeePass app previously installed in order to access your passwords.
